Dell Equallogic San Headquarters Download
Hello there, hope you've been doing well.TL;DR/Help/Question:I didn't know DELL was evil. Does anyone have or have access to the latest firmware, drivers, software, and manual for a Dell EqualLogic PS6000E that they would be willing to download/share for/with me? And then maybe upload it to a Dropbox, Google Drive, or FTP and PM me a link where I can download it?I was hoping to use it in a VMware/vCenter/Microsoft Server 2012 learning environment if that changes anything. The Story:I recently purchased a ' Dell EqualLogic PS6000E iSCSI SAN' off of for the price of $680 CAD (with tax). I was very excited to have a legitimate SAN being added to my homelab to say the least.Upon getting it home, I quickly realized that there were no USB, VGA, or any sort of port except for 2 control modules and their LAN ports.I soon realized that I had no way to manage the SAN and that I should probably look to DELL's website for a manual and some setup software.Well, that's when the problems started. The typical DELL website had little to no information for the PS6000E, and nothing to download.
I learned that supposedly you have to make an account on the EqualLogic Support website to download anything. So I attempted to make an account. They required that I submit a request form and to put in my service tag. I filled everything out and waited a day before getting a response. Long story short, the ownership is still set to the seller (who I was in contact with) and that I could only switch the ownership to myself if I bought and paid for the $1700+ Warranty Pro package that would allow them to switch it and to download anything related to the device.I was/am furious to say the least. Not only can I not download the drivers, firmware and software necessary to use and setup the SAN, I can't even download a damn manual!I know that some companys, like HP, require some sort of Customer Support style subscription to download the most recent firmware and whatnot but at least HP lets you download the basic drivers and a MANUAL! Everything is behind a paywall for DELL.I was hoping to use this SAN to learn about setting up iSCSI targets/hosts and just to learn about SANs in general as I've never used one before. But it seems like I'm now in the possession of a very expensive paperweight and out a decent amount of money.I've done some light Googling but I haven't really turned up much with regards to Firmware, Drivers, installation/usage manual and the like. I've always had good experiences with the community and am hoping someone can help me turn this tragedy into a learning experience.
Please review the top bolded header. I'm sure the existing firmware is probably okay but if I'm able to get the latest, why not; you know? That's great to hear. I found it weird that the SAN wasn't attaining an IP from my DHCP when I plugged in an Ethernet. That said, I KNEW there must have been a web interface of some sort! Wouldn't make sense on how to manage it, unless there was some sort of software that went with it.Though I know there's something called the Host Client Toolkit, or something along those lines which is the software I mentioned.
But apparently you can only get it through the EqualLogic support page.None of my main computers have serial ports, so I guess I'll have to go to my basement and dig through my graveyard to find something with a COM Port. So once I have that plugged in, I'm assuming there's a command to maybe factory reset everything?

Once that's done, maybe there's a command to assign an IP or set it to DHCP so that I can connect to the web interface?Where can I find a list of commands to use within the COM Port? Assuming I go that route? Someone above has been nice enough to offer downloads, so I'll be trying that too but I might play around with the COM Port stuff as I've never done that before either. Or maybe I'll need to reset the password via COM regardless of whether or not the other method goes through?. Ah, cool cool. According to the other gentleman I'll have to connect via COM port regardless, lol. But good, I'm glad it has a Web Interface!

That's said, Java. I suppose it's slightly better than flash, haha? I don't know why companies don't just do everything with HTML5. Like VMware's new Host Client for vSphere 6.0 u2 is great!
More should follow. That said, I suppose this SAN is quite old now so it wouldn't have anything fancy like that anyway.Gotcha, I'm assuming the factory reset can be done via the COM port as well? Is there a list of commands? /help or maybe a '?' I'm guessing it would be in the list?. I would recommend not updating the firmware. The newer firmware generally became more restrictive in what it supported, and added little in terms of features.
They generally fixed bugs, worked around issues in their controllers, and added support for newer hardware (10GB, etc). Older firmwares are better for this platform - you can even run WD Black's with older firmware.Keep in mind Equallogic was an acquisition for Dell. They never changed the systems that Equallogic had in place (register for downloads, etc). That's the website I attempted to make an account for but then was quickly rejected from and asked to pay $1700 for a warranty plan so that I can be allowed to download. It's completely not free. I had a lengthy email conversation from EqualLogic support.
I was not pleased. That said, another user was kind enough to download me all the drivers and software that I need to get the SAN running.I wish you were right on this one 'cause this whole thing would've been much easier but unfortunately that's not the case:(Thank you for trying though!.
